Vasyl Simyrenko and Ukrainian national-democratic activists
Abstract
An outstanding Ukrainian enterpriser and Maecenas of Ukrainian culture and science for many years Vasyl Symyrenko has made a significant contribution into the development of Ukraine, first and foremost into the society preparation for the national liberation revolution of 1917–1920. National democratic organizations, figures and publishing houses supported by the Maecenas, have done a lot for the formation of Ukrainian identity comprehension in the society and the conditions preparation for the realization of revolutionary changes and the arising of Ukrainian state.
Vasyl Symyrenko (the Great Horse) connections with Ukrainian national democratic figures, organizations and Rada, Hromadska Dumka, Nova Rada, Ukrayina, Kievskaya Starina newspapers and Vik publishing house are considered in the article. The Maecenas interrelation with Volodymyr Antonovych, Oleksandr Kistiakivskyi, Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, Yevhen Chykalenko, Serhiy Konyskyi, Mykola Lysenko, Andriy Nikovskyi, Volodymyr Naumenko, Volodymyr Leontovych and other figures is revealed.
It is emphasized, that the surroundings, where the Maecenas is and supports national democratic organizations financially have created a chain of prominent figures of national liberation movement of the Tsentralna Rada, UNR, Hetmanate, Directory times.
An issue concerning the necessity of an outstanding owner and the generous Ukrainian culture Maecenas of many years honouring in modern independent Ukraine is raised.
